The City of Platteville took top honors in the Best Public-Private Partnership category for the Library Block Redevelopment Project at the Wisconsin Main Street Awards hosted by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC).  The award was accepted by Eileen Nickels, President of the City of Platteville Common Council.  The awards ceremony recognized the efforts by Wisconsin Main Street volunteers and staff for their historic preservation and downtown economic deveopment efforts of communities in Wisconsin in 2017.

"WEDC congratulates the City of Platteville for its outstanding efforts to revitalize and improve downtown," said Mark R. Hogan, secretary and CEO of WEDC.  "A vibrant downtown is critical to a community's overall economic development as well as the quality of life for its residents, and we commend Platteville for being among the best in the state when it comes to strengthening its downtown."

"The 16 million dollar project that transformed a downtown blighted block into a vibrant Holiday Inn Express, Public Library, and Women's Health Clinic, has been a giant catalyst for economic growth in the downtown district.  It was the first major redevelopment in the downtown area in the past 40 years.  We are so pleased that the city took the leadership in making this happen," said Main Street Executive Director, Jack Luedtke.

The awards were held on Friday, April 27, in Ripon, Wisconsin.
