Platteville Senior Center Director, Connie Steinhoff received the award for Professional Excellence at the 2015 Wisconsin Association of Senior Centers annual conference on September 17th, in Eau Claire, WI.

The Award for Professional Excellence is given to a WASC Senior Center Director for outstanding service performance, professional accomplishments and job performance, service to the aging profession, involvement and leadership in the local community.  The Commission on Aging nominated Connie for the award, and a committee of non-WASC members reviewed the nominations and selected the winner.

Connie has served as the Senior Center Director for almost 8 years.  In that short time she led an effort to improve transportation for seniors to and from the center, initiated Project Pulse – a successful fundraising effort to place Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in city facilities, recruited the help of local senior service providers, businesses, organizations, and individuals to establish the annual Community Senior Picnic, and worked with Platteville Community Area Network (PCAN) along with private donors to provide updated technology equipment and opportunities to seniors.

The Commission on Aging nomination states that, in addition to the previously listed accomplishments, it is “Connie’s positive outlook and attitude, professionalism, and desire to affect change when needed that has promoted a positive image of the center throughout our community.   She has created a warm, welcoming place away from home for all of our participants.”
