Position Summary

The City of Platteville seeks an experienced, detail-oriented, and motivated individual to serve as our City Hall Office Assistant. Under the direction of the City Manager, this individual will be responsible for greeting and assisting customers, answering incoming calls, directing calls to appropriate personnel, mail distribution, and flow of correspondence, as well as clerical and basic accounting work performed for various municipal departments.

This is a full-time position, offering exceptional employee benefits and a minimum starting hourly wage of $16.73. 

Responsibilities

  • Greet and direct customers to appropriate destination, answer telephone calls and direct caller to the appropriate personnel; take messages and forward calls to correct extensions.
  • Provide customers with information such as City departmental addresses, fax numbers, website, directions to each location, and other related information.
  • Receive, sort, and forward incoming mail; coordinate pick-ups and deliveries of express mail (FedEx, UPS, etc.); Responsible for collecting internal mail and posting it daily; pick-ups daily post office box mail.
  • Compose the agendas of the Parks, Forestry & Recreation Committee, Airport Commission, Platteville Public Transportation Committee, Community Safe Routes Committee, and other assigned meetings, as well as news releases for the newspapers.  Post all approved minutes and agendas to the city website .
  • Maintain inventories and purchase office supplies and materials.
  • Aid the Recreation and Community Events Coordinator in recreation activity registrations and coordination. Uses ActiveNet online registration program for these duties.
  • Assist in reserving meeting space for the municipal facilities and take reservations with payment as necessary for facilities. Includes maintaining and arranging door access for events, meetings, and general hours of operation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year related work experience.
