WATER & SEWER PAYMENTS

Water/Sewer Payment Options: Cash payments must be placed in an envelope with your name and service address clearly written on the envelope. Excess payments will be applied to your account as a credit.

You may also choose to make your payment online or by phone via Payment Service Network (PSN). PSN convenience fees will be applied to your payment. Fees are: $1.10 for a checking account payment or 3.0% (+ 0.50 cents for payments under $100) for credit or debit card payments.

Are you moving? Applications for or terminations of service are not accepted over the phone. We require a signature (by either the party moving in, the party moving out or the landlord) to complete the process. Click the "Moving" button below for the application/termination form and instructions.

Disconnections are on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

How much should my water bill be? Do you have an average usage chart?

Average Residential Usage Chart below. It’s never good to compare bills with someone else as bills are based on YOUR usage. The standard monthly rate for all residential customers is $38.44* before any water usage. Things to consider are how many are in your household, guests, how often and how long you shower or bathe, watering the yard, how much laundry you do, age/efficiency of your appliances, etc.. Average usage by adults is 200 cubic feet per month and that's somewhat on the high end. Small children - you can probably figure 100 cubic feet for a small child.

*If you have a separate meter for watering lawns, you will need to add $4.75 to your monthly base charges.

What forms of payment are available to pay my water bill?

The Water & Sewer Department is able to accept cash, money orders, personal/business checks and credit cards as payment for your Water & Sewer bill.  We also provide customers the option of setting up automatic payment withdrawal. With automatic payment withdrawal, the Water & Sewer Department will withdraw the full payment out of the customer’s account on the 20th of every month. Credit card payments can be made online through Payment Service Network, via phone (877.885.7968 option 1) or in the Finance office located at City Hall.  Please note: if you use a credit card, there will be a 3.0% fee with a minimum $0.50 charge.

Who do I contact to set up my Water and Sewer services?

To set up Water & Sewer service, you will need to fill out an Application/Termination form. The form is available on our website here, or in our office located at City Hall. If you need to start and stop service, you MUST complete two forms. You can email the completed form/s to wsstaff@platteville.org or drop them off at the Water and Sewer Office.

Why aren't reminders to pay sent out rather than the formal disconnection notice?

If we haven’t received payment by the 20th of the month, we send out disconnection notices around the 25th. Sometimes there is a very short window from the payment due date and when we send out notices. For example, in February 2022, we have to print disconnection notices on Tuesday the 24th and start printing the next month’s bills 2 days later to get them in the mail by the end of February. These notices are the only “reminders” we send out and are sent to all customers with a delinquent (past due) balance at the time of printing. There's a lot of information we are required to send.

Why did I get a late charge on my Water and Sewer Bill - I scheduled payment from my bank for the 20th?

Your bank will create and mail us a paper check. The payment is not electronic. You need to allow time for bank processing and mailing.

Why is my water bill so high?

Your toilet may be leaking and you don't hear it. The seals can get old and your toilet needs to refill itself but not so much that you hear it. It's easy to check. Put a couple drops of dark colored food coloring or dark colored soda in the back part of the toilet (the tank part). Do not flush. Wait 20 to 30 minutes. If the water in the bowl turns that color, you have a leaky toilet.
