Welcome to the City Clerk's Office!  The City Clerk Department's mission is to maintain and provide public records, and to provide quality services and assistance to the citizens of the city of Platteville, elected officials, and City Departments relative to the functions of government in a courteous, efficient, and cost-effective manner. 

This Department also oversees assessing services that are provided through an independent contractor:  Accurate Appraisal.  The Assessor establishes fair and equitable assessed values and maintains current and accurate property records for all properties within the City of Platteville.  For more information on the assessment process, click here.

Specific responsibilities of the City Clerk include:

  • Serving as custodian of official City records
  • Recording and preserving the legislative actions of the City Council and Plan Commission
  • Maintaining the City's Municipal Code
  • Administering oaths; notarizing; maintaining custody of the City seal
  • Issuing licenses (fermented malt beverages, liquor, wine, bartender/operator, tobacco, taxi, fireworks dealer) and permits (parade, run/walk, banner, street closing, direct seller, fireworks)
  • Administering and facilitating all local, state, and federal elections for City residents
  • Overseeing assessing services and administering the annual Board of Review
