City of Platteville Partners With UW-Platteville For Information Technology Services

Since starting as Platteville City Manager, one of the goals established for Adam Ruechel was to continue strengthening the working relationship between the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and the City.  In planning meetings, both parties have agreed that when the two organizations are able to be united on a topic, it can only strengthen the community.

In the summer of 2020, the City of Platteville began the process of reviewing City Information Technology services and started to explore the potential partnership of aligning with UW-Platteville.  Both organizations began reviewing the concept of entering into an intergovernmental agreement, where the City would receive Information Technology services from the University.

Throughout the fall, both organizations worked on developing an official intergovernmental agreement for Information Technology services, which was officially signed on December 14, 2020.  The agreement went into effect this month and provides the foundation for the University to provide the City of Platteville with Information Technology services on a trial basis for six months.  UW-Platteville will be assisting the City with proactive monitoring of technology equipment, support and maintenance of various network, servers, devices, and internet connectivity, as well as backup management and long-range technology support planning.

“I am excited to continue to foster an intergovernmental relationship with the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.  When reviewing our information technology services, it made sense to consider a partnership with UW-Platteville’s Information Technology Services department. The City is looking forward to tapping into the vast institutional knowledge potentials available. As both of our organizations are financially supported by the community members we serve, it is imperative when opportunities for collaboration are available between us, they are vetted to the fullest,” stated City Manager Ruechel.

UW-Platteville Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Tammy Evetovich said, “This is a wonderful partnership between the University and the City that will help provide efficiency of service and network security for the City of Platteville. I am grateful for the hard work and sense of collaboration that everyone brought to the table during these discussions. We are so glad we can serve the community with our skilled and experienced ITS staff.  We look forward to future collaborations.”

The City of Platteville would like to thank the previous service provider, CompuNET for their dedication and services to the City, as well as to the residents of Platteville.
