Downtown Ribbon Cutting Ceremony To Be Held Friday, May 25th
PLATTEVILLE, WI (May 11, 2018) –The City of Platteville will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate some exciting changes that will make downtown more colorful this summer. The ceremony will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, May 25th at 3 Marias Ice Cream, 125 East Main Street.
The City of Platteville has partnered with John-Paul Butcher and the Platteville High School Art Department to create artwork for the Main Street streetlight pole banners. Students were asked to think about what Platteville means to them or to convey a relationship they have with an aspect of the city, which has inspired them. “We wanted to do something that would be unique and we loved the idea of involving our youth in promoting our community,” stated Communications Specialist Jodie Richards. The student art will alternate with a more traditional banner design welcoming visitors to the community.
Hanging flower baskets will also be returning to Main Street this summer. The City purchased new self-watering hanging baskets to reduce the frequency of watering and Building Platteville has generously donated flowers. Additionally, the American Legion Post 42 and the VFW Post 5274 have purchased new American flags to replace the worn ones.
“Main Street is the living room of our community and we want it to look it’s best,” City Manager Karen Kurt stated. “We are grateful for the support from these community organizations.”
The public is encouraged to come celebrate the City’s newly adorned light poles and thank these local organizations and artists that helped to refresh Main Street.
