Mais Oui, the French Film Festival was a Hit!

Avalon Theater - International Film Festival

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the International French Film Festival. The festival was organized by students and faculty of UW-Platteville and hosted by the Avalon Theater. What a fantastic event!

Thanks to the work and funding from UW-P, the films were free for attendees and included a discussion afterwards. Unfortunately for readers, the festival is over for this year but you can read about the event here: https://www.uwplatt.edu/news/uw-platteville-and-avalon-cinema-host-international-film-festival

Avalon Theater Manager Jeremy Patnaude reported that the films had an average of 70 attendees. One film, School of Babel, was standing room only. Jeremy also reported that the festival drew attendees from Dubuque, Galena, and Mineral Point.

We are fortunate to have a such a community-minded and creative theater management team (special call out to Duane and Michelle Deyoung, owners of the State Theater group and the Avalon Theater). Their efforts to keep our downtown theater vibrant with events like the International Film Festival and Sensory Day at the Movies are drawing new people to our downtown.  And for film buffs like me, the opportunity to see these no-so-hollywood films in Platteville is very exciting!
