Who needs Minneapolis?

Who needs Minneapolis?

October 19, 2015

Many of you already know that I relocated to Platteville from the Twin Cities. I worked for suburbs (Edina and Eden Prairie) but I actually lived in Minneapolis proper. Minneapolis is a fantastic place and I enjoyed my 20 years there. In fact, I thought I would never leave, but life circumstances changed.

A few weeks ago I got an email from the Dakota Jazz Club. The Dakota is a wonderful club in downtown Minneapolis that brings national talent to a small stage. The email was promoting an upcoming group named Igudesman and Joo. Here’s how the group is described:

If Trey Parker and Matt Stone played the violin and piano, if Penn and Teller performed music instead of magic, and if Seth MacFarlane had a twin, they would be the brilliantly outrageous Igudesman & Joo. Violinist Aleksey Igudesman and pianist Hyung-Ki Joo are the inventive comic duo whose hilarious mix of music, pop culture and pure zaniness has won them fans of all ages and cultures worldwide. As evidence, their YouTube sketches have attracted close to 40 million viewers.

And here is a link to one of their YouTube videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKZITB_r8t0Pretty cool – especially for classical music!

I actually forwarded the email to a twin cities friend lamenting the fact that I couldn’t go. How wrong I was. Igudesman and Joo will be at the UWP Performing Arts Center on October 22. I will have to walk 6 blocks to attend. Believe me, Minneapolis can’t beat that!

And even if you aren’t the classical music type, you have to appreciate how wonderful it is to have nationally known artists on our community.  Thank you UWP!
