Why a City Manager eJournal?
Why a City Manager eJournal?
October 6, 2015
Hello and thank you for visiting the City Manager eJournal! I’m guessing that many of you are wondering: What is an eJournal? Why are you doing it? First, "eJournal" is just a name we made up because, due to current technology restrictions, our site isn’t a blog. If it were a blog, readers would be able to comment like other social media sites.
My previous boss and mentor, Scott Neal, City Manager of Edina, MN, is a big blogger.
Look above for a picture of Scott waving hello to the citizens of Platteville. He’s looking relaxed at the ICMA (International City/County Managers Association) conference in Seattle.
Scott was one of the first to start using blogging as a communication tool in local government and has been a speaker at national (even international!) conferences about his blogging efforts. You can read his blog here: http://blogs.edinamn.gov/category/scott-neal/
So why blog or eJournal? The idea behind the eJournal is to give a more personal account of what is happening in Platteville and the region through the eyes of the City Manager. In some ways, my perspective may be even more interesting given that I’m new to the city, region and state. The eJournal is also intended to give you more insight into the work that we do and the staff members that make it all happen.
While you won’t be able to share your comments online (yet), we still hope that you will send your feedback. You can do so by clicking on the “contact us” button on the upper right side of the homepage. You may also leave feedback by commenting on the eJournal links posted on the city’s Facebook or Twitter pages.
