Barbara Daus, Council President
District 2
Barbara Daus was born in Illinois, grew up on a farm in the Lake Mills (WI) area and chose to attend UW-Platteville. Barb earned a bachelor's and master's degree from the University. While the majority of her career was in administration at UW-Platteville, Barb has experience as a high school science teacher, village administrator, and human resource professional. She currently works in western Wisconsin communities and schools helping volunteers building endowments through the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.
Barb has been active in Platteville since she and husband, Hap, relocated here in 1987. She has served on the Chamber Board of Directors and coordinated the campaign to purchase the current Chamber building and has also been active with the Platteville Main Street program. She is a member of Quota International of Platteville and is a former advisory board member of the Platteville Community Fund and the PHS Scholarship Fund. Additionally, Barb served for 18 years on the Platteville Board of Education and has been involved in regional economic development organizations.
Barb and Hap have one grown son, Jeremy, who lives with his wife, Andrea, in Minneapolis.
In commenting on her council service Barb noted, "I have a strong belief in community and community service. We cannot expect others to 'do for us.' Rather, we just take responsibility for developing and improving our lives and communities. Platteville is a great place to live, work, play and study BECAUSE of its active and engaged residents."
