Common Council District 1 Community Dialogue Session To Be Held Tuesday, March 30, 2021

PLATTEVILLE, WI (March 22, 2021) – During the 2020 strategic planning process a central topic the City received from residents, business owners and visitors was to focus on telling a better story of Platteville.  The Common Council discussed ways in which they would try to accomplish this, as well as continuing to review new approaches to engage community members who typically do not participate in Council meetings.

To assist in achieving this goal, the City of Platteville will be conducting a series of district specific Community Dialogue Sessions throughout the remainder of the year. The City of Platteville has a seven-member elected Common Council. Four of these members serve specific voting districts of the City, and three members are considered to be At-large, representing all voting districts.  The purpose of these district specific sessions is to give community members a convenient, drop-in opportunity to engage with their elected officials.  The sessions are designed to promote short, two-way conversations about issues that matter most to residents and others in the City.

These sessions are intended to be informal and structured in a way that allows for more two-way conversation than at regular Council meetings. There will be a Council member at each session, with no formal agenda or presentation. Community members are welcome to attend and stay for as long – or as short – as they wish. If a group wishes to utilize these sessions as an opportunity to share a collective perspective, the City asks that they designate one or two members to attend, with intent to report back to the larger group.

The first district specific Community Dialogue Session will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  This dialogue session will focus on District 1 which is represented by Common Council member Isaac Shanley.  Click here to view a map of District 1.

Council member Shanley along with City Manager Adam Ruechel will be present in the City Hall Auditorium located on the first floor of City Hall (75 N. Bonson Street) for anyone who wishes to attend in person.  Anyone attending in person will be required to wear a face covering and follow COVID-19 social distancing protocols.  Those wishing to attend remotely via Zoom may send a request via email to cityofplatteville@platteville.org to receive a copy of the participation link.
