During the 2020 strategic planning process a central topic the City received from residents, business owners and visitors was to focus on telling a better story of Platteville. The Common Council discussed ways in which they would try to accomplish this, as well as continuing to review new approaches to engage community members who typically do not participate in Council meetings.
To assist in achieving this goal, the City of Platteville will be conducting a series of district specific Community Dialogue Sessions throughout the remainder of the year. The City of Platteville has a seven-member elected Common Council. Four of these members serve specific voting districts of the City, and three members are considered to be At-large, representing all voting districts. The purpose of these district specific sessions is to give community members a convenient, drop-in opportunity to engage with their elected officials. The sessions are designed to promote short, two-way conversations about issues that matter most to residents and others in the City.
There will be a Council member at each session, with no formal agenda or presentation. Community members are welcome to attend and stay for as long – or as short – as they wish. If a group wishes to utilize these sessions as an opportunity to share a collective perspective, the City asks that they designate one or two members to attend, with intent to report back to the larger group.
