PLATTEVILLE, Wis., September 1, 2021 —After much soul-searching and discussion, the 24th annual Platteville Historic Re-enactment, scheduled for September 10-12 at Platteville’s Mound View Park, has been postponed because of the steadily rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in the area.  It was not an easy decision, especially because of the number of schools that had already registered to attend.

“Our committee and re-enacting family really tried to make it possible to hold the re-enactment this year, but we kept coming back to the feeling that we needed to protect the re-enactors, our volunteers, and the students, teachers, and families that would be coming to the event.  We did not want to be the reason someone fell ill, or worse.  We were all in agreement that postponing the event was the responsible thing to do” stated committee chair Stephanie Saager-Bourret.  “Many of our re-enactors look forward to this event because of the quality of the venue and the quality of the students that attend on School Day.  We will miss seeing Mound View Park alive with classes engaging with the re-enactors, learning and having fun.”

See the  VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING and CURRICULM MATERIALS available on The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums website - https://mining.jamison.museum/hr/. Video content, resources, and activities provide tools and inspiration for educators to use with their students.  Teachers can use this material in place of attending the annual Historic Re-enactment or for assignments and projects related to our regional history. We hope the resources will spark memories of past visits to the Historic Re-enactment, and build anticipation for future visits.

The Platteville Historic Re-enactment began in 1998 as a Wisconsin Sesquicentennial project.  Since then over 50,000 students, teachers, and families have had an opportunity to experience “hand-on” history with some of the best historic re-enactors and demonstrators in the Midwest.
