City of Platteville Welcomes New Museum Director

PLATTEVILLE, WI (June 28, 2018) – The City of Platteville is pleased to announce that Erik Flesch will begin his role as the new Museum Director of the Mining and Rollo Jamison Museums on July 2, 2018. “We couldn’t be more excited to have Erik onboard,” said City Manager Karen Kurt. “His unique background will be a tremendous asset to our Museums and the community.” 

Flesch previously served as the Director of Development for Taliesin Preservation, a Spring Green-based nonprofit founded in 1990 to preserve and share the Wisconsin estate of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Flesch earned his Master of Architecture degree with cum laude honors from Taliesin, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, in 2013. Flesch is also a trained geologist.  He started his career in the field of mineral exploration and mining.

In speaking about his new position, Flesch stated, “I am honored to have been named Museum Director and excited to contribute my experience to stewarding the facilities and collections of the Mining and Rollo Jamison Museums. I look forward to growing audiences and further cultivating the community of stakeholders and supporters in support of our regional and mining history mission.”

Flesch was selected after a national search yielded a field of 34 candidates. He succeeds former director Diana Bolander who began a position with the Rahr-West Museum in Manitowoc last month. Flesch and his wife, Sara, live in Mineral Point in an 1851 miner’s cottage near the Pendarvis historic site.
