Just in Time for the Holidays, Friends of The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums Launch Fall Cornish Pasty Sale
PLATTEVILLE, Wis., September 29, 2023 — The Friends of The Mining & Rollo Jamison Pasty Fundraiser is back for another round of deliciousness just in time for the holidays! In addition to the four savory flavors offered in the past (beef, chicken, pork, and vegetable), two new flavors are available — apple pie and chicken pot pie. Discounts available on bulk orders. Stock up for the holidays with the food that our earliest Badger State miners ate: Cornish pasty! Order by November 3 for pick up on November 18 at the Millennium Cinema parking lot. Order online at www.mining.jamison.museum/pasty or by contacting a board member or the Museum.
Pasties (pronounced “PAST-ease”) are hand pies with delicious fillings that have been a staple of the diet of Cornwall — where many of the world’s greatest miners originated — for more than 700 years. Pasties were first enjoyed in our region by Wisconsin’s pre-Civil War lead miners and are still considered a delicious treat. The pasties are made by the Walker House in Mineral Point, whose beef pasties were called “one of Wisconsin’s best foods” by the Food Network in 2017. Full ingredient lists for all flavors can be found online at www.mining.jamison.museum/pasty.
The seven-ounce pasties are offered frozen, to be baked at home for a piping hot meal and accompanied by your favorite condiment. (We recommend chili sauce.) Beef, chicken, pork, and vegetable pasties are $10 each, chicken pot pie and apple pie are $11 each, and gluten-free beef pasties are $12 each. Orders of 5-9 pasties receive a 20% discount and orders of 10 or more receive a 30% discount. Stock up for the holidays and save!
The pasty sale has become one of the most important fundraisers of the year for the Friends of The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums. The Friends are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the Museum in all its endeavors, including providing funds for operations, public programs, and initiatives such as Museum field trip scholarship funds for elementary school students across the historic mining district of southwestern Wisconsin.
For more information on the Friends of the Museum, including a list of board members, see www.mining.jamison.museum/leadership. For additional information or ordering assistance, contact Museum staff at (608) 348-3301 or email museums@platteville.org.
