Museum Specialist - Collections Management

The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums | City of Platteville seeks a Museum Specialist-Collections Management Intern to provide oversight for documentation and collections care for a two-year project starting September 1, 2020.
The Museum Specialist-Collections Management will provide general oversight for documentation and care for The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums’ diverse collection of more than 30,000 objects. The Museum Specialist-Collections Management will be responsible for management of collections records and database, administer all collections care and management documentation for permanent collection, and apply best practices to the work of the Museums. This position requires precise attention to detail, strong communication and analytical skills, as well as the abilities to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work collaboratively and diplomatically.
Supervisor: Museum Director
Schedule: The Museum Specialist-Communications Management is expected to work approximately 13 hours per week, 680 hours per year, for a total of total of 1,360 hours between September 1, 2020, and August 31, 2021.
Compensation: $20/hour for a total of 1,360 hours between September 1, 2020, and August 31, 2021.
Requirements:
Must hold U.S. citizenship.
Bachelor’s degree with a major in Public History, Museum Studies or related field; or Master’s degree in a related field preferred; or related work experience of 1 to 4 years; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to work with diverse audiences including children, families, volunteers, and older adults.
Strong written and communication skills.
Experience with Windows applications.
Ability to work proactively and independently on multiple tasks while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
Knowledge of local history, experience with developing and delivering interpretative programs to a broad audience, and supervisory experience preferred.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
