Position Summary
The City of Platteville Police Department is seeking applicants for a Full-time (40hrs/week) Dispatcher (Telecommunicator) to be responsible for coordinating emergent and non-emergent requests for service from police, fire and emergency medical services within the Platteville area. The position offers a starting wage of $18.55/hr and generous benefit package to include: sick leave, vacation, health insurance, and Wisconsin Retirement System participation. Hours are 40 hrs/week, including weekdays, weekends, evening and overnight hours as well as holidays.
Acceptable applicants will be asked to complete an online typing test and other assessments.
Responsibilities
- Answers all police department telephone calls on multi-line telephone system, E-911 lines, and UW-Platteville Police lines, ascertains nature of call, gathers all necessary information to transmit or relay, determines urgency of calls, and coordinates response by appropriate public safety service, other city department, or outside agency.
- Answers all radio calls directed to the communications center on various radio frequencies (Police, Sheriff, Fire, EMS, and other city departments), ascertains nature of call, gathers all necessary information to transmit or relay, determines urgency of calls, and coordinates response by appropriate public safety service, other city department, or outside agency.
- Provides information to officers in the field by various methods of communication (radio, in person, electronic mail, by phone, or electronic messaging) as needed.
- Performs routine clerical and administrative work in receiving the public, providing customer assistance, cashiering, and data processing.
- Maintains all written records including but not limited to the radio log, telephone log, call logs, Records Management System database, towing callout list, and parking permission list.
- Maintains regular contact with all on-duty city and UW-Platteville police personnel as well as responding personnel from other city services.
- Operates various criminal data information systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- No felony convictions (criminal background check will be conducted)
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Quality customer service experience
- Excellent communication and multi-tasking skills
- Basic knowledge of computers and report-writing
Preferred Qualifications
- Work experience in a related field of emergency services dispatching
- Associates degree in a related field
- APCO Certification(s) (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials)
