Platteville Police Department Investigates School Threats
9/09/2024 Platteville, WI
Near the end of the school day on Friday, September 6, the Platteville High School reported to the Platteville, WI Police Department that a student had made a verbal threat to school safety. This comment was overheard by other students in the class, who reported the comments to staff. The student in question was removed from the school and the threat was investigated. After completing a threat assessment, it was determined there was no immediate threat to student safety. District administration was advised.
On the evening of Saturday, September 7, while at a community event, it was reported that two juvenile males had a verbal altercation. During the argument, one of the juveniles made statements threatening violence towards the school. Platteville Police interviewed the juveniles involved and determined the threat was not credible.
In both instances, the juveniles who made the threatening statements will be referred to Grant County Social Services for charges.
It has been determined that the events are not related to each other. The Platteville Police Department takes threats to student and staff safety at our schools seriously. When a threat is made, it is always investigated, and a threat assessment is completed. If a threat is determined to be credible, the public will be immediately notified. Anyone who makes a threat to school safety will be referred for possible charges.
