Sign Up for CodeRED – Platteville's New Community Notification System
The City of Platteville has launched CodeRED, a new community notification system, to send important alerts and time-sensitive messages to community members and visitors. Along with emergency and critical messages, the CodeRED notification system will also enhance community engagement through the release of important but non-emergency information such as road closures, water and sewer alerts, snow plow schedules and other city services.
CodeRED will be replacing the City of Platteville’s prior notification system, NIXLE. Community members that were enrolled to receive NIXLE alerts will have to enroll separately in CodeRED and can do so by going to www.platteville.org/police or directly by visiting public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BF8B1E0776B5.
CodeRED Key Benefits
CodeRED will deliver several benefits for residents and enable staff to more efficiently manage and distribute notifications before, during and after emergency and non-emergency events:
- Registration for this notification service is customizable, allowing users to choose how they receive the notifications and from which non-emergency notification groups they want to receive messages from.
- Residents can select several different notification methods including landline, cell phone, email, text message, TTY, or even a combination. These alerts can be specific to streets, neighborhoods or regions, so individuals within affected areas are sure to receive relevant information.
- Residents and visitors can keep track of alerts in our city with the CodeRED Mobile App, which notifies smartphone holders of real-time alerts in the area. Similar to the online registration, users choose which notifications they’d like to receive via the app.
- Authorized city personnel will have access to the CodeRED Launcher - an app that allows authorized public safety officials to create and send messages on the go from any smartphone or tablet within seconds, without requiring a computer.
- Staff members can also use the system to communicate emergency information with one another. This will help us ensure our emergency response and daily operations are even more efficient.
The Platteville Police Department will be testing the CodeRED emergency contact database on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 after 10 a.m. This test is to validate telephone numbers in the City of Platteville’s database. Here’s what you need to know:
- There is no need to take action if you receive the call. Emergency personnel are merely testing the system to ensure it is operational as needed, and to encourage additional residents to enroll to receive future notifications.
- This process helps us continually improve the system. Testing increases the efficiency of the system and speed at which notifications will be delivered during an actual emergency.
- Visit our website to update contact information. If your phone number is not in the database, you will not receive a call when we do launch an important notification.
All residents are encouraged to visit platteville.org/police or go directly to public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BF8B1E0776B5 to sign up for CodeRED and immediately start receiving these informative alerts. For more information on the CodeRED notification system or registration, please contact Lt. Jeff Haas at (608)348-2313.
