The City of Platteville is proposing to reconstruct Camp Street. The project is in Section 10, T3N, R1W, City of Platteville, Grant County, Wisconsin. The project begins at the intersection of STH 81/Lancaster Street and Camp Street and continues east approximately 0.22 miles to the intersection of N Elm Street and Camp Street.

The project is being designed by Jewell Associates Engineers, Inc., and will consist of reconstructing the roadway. At the February 29th, 2024, public involvement meeting, three alternatives were presented that explored different configurations of roadway width, parking, replacing curb and gutter, and placing sidewalk. After receiving public feedback, a new alternative was designed with 11’ driving lanes, a 7’ parking on the south side, and a 5’ grass terrace and a 5’ sidewalk on the north side. The Camp Street and 7th Avenue intersection will be realigned to provide a safer intersection, including a potential traffic circle that is intended to calm traffic.  Construction is currently planned for the 2025 construction season.

On behalf of the City of Platteville, we would like to invite you to a Public Involvement Meeting for the Camp Street Roadway Reconstruction project.

The Public Involvement Meeting will be held Tuesday, April 30th, 2024, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the Platteville City Hall in the Common Council Chambers room, located at 75 N Bonson Street, Platteville, WI 53818.

The April 30th meeting will begin with a short presentation at 6:00 PM followed by an open house format with a variety of exhibits and maps available for review. Representatives from Jewell Associates Engineers, Inc. will be on hand to answer questions throughout the meeting. Attendees will have the option of making written or verbal comments during the gathering.

Persons with concern for or knowledge about historic buildings and structures and archaeological sites are encouraged to attend this meeting or provide comments to the local units of government or the consultant. The Platteville City Hall is wheelchair accessible.

If there are issues you would like to discuss, please attend the Public Involvement Meeting. Based on the Project Information Meeting feedback, Jewell Associates prepared the Proposed Seventh and Camp Intersection Design. (Please see attachment below)

Thursday, March 14, 2024

Based on the Project Information Meeting feedback, Jewell Associates prepared these two new Alternatives for consideration.  Since Camp Street is a route used by School Buses, and reviewing DOT design standards, the City has directed Jewell Associates to proceed with design of Alternative 4B with 11-foot travel lanes, parking on one side and sidewalk on the north side.  The new edge of sidewalk will not get any closer to the houses than it is for the current sidewalk. Below is a revised intersection design at Seventh and Camp that moves the intersection slightly to the west.  There will be about 6.75 feet between the closest tree at 945 Seventh and back of the curb radius.  This revision doubles the distance from the previous design.
