City Of Platteville Invests In Acquiring Land For Future Housing Development
Platteville, WI (May 31, 2024) - The City of Platteville is pleased to announce a strategic investment in the community's housing future. On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the city successfully acquired three tracts of land through a property auction, marking a significant step toward addressing the pressing demand for more housing in the area.
The land acquisition of roughly 29 acres, purchased at $412,000, was funded through resources received from the closure and return of a housing loan. Notably, this land purchase will not impact property tax bills for residents.
"The purchase of these properties is a proactive move to expand our housing options and meet the growing needs of our residents," said Barbara Daus, Common Council President. "This investment reflects our commitment to fostering housing opportunities for current and future community members.”
City Manager Clint Langreck added, “This was a bold move by our Common Council, and I am confident that it holds many future rewards for the community. A special thanks goes out to Community Development Director Joe Carroll for coordinating the many pieces that led to this success.”
Over the next few months, the city will begin exploring various opportunities to develop the newly acquired land. This process will involve engaging with community stakeholders, assessing housing needs, and identifying the most effective ways to utilize the properties to benefit the residents of Platteville.
The City of Platteville is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its citizens and ensuring sustainable growth. By investing in land for housing, the city aims to create a thriving environment where everyone has access to suitable and affordable living spaces.
*The City will be working with a Real Estate firm on closing the transaction. Until that transaction, the land is still owned by a private entity.
