Position Summary

The City of Platteville is seeking applicants for a part-time (50%) Code Enforcement Inspector to lead routine enforcement activities involving public safety, property maintenance, weed/grass control, sidewalk snow removal, and public parking. This part-time position will be scheduled for 20 hours per week, with a minimum starting hourly wage of $16.72 (based on experience) and is eligible for paid leave, including holidays, vacation and sick time. This position may have the potential to accommodate additional hours and full employee benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces common property maintenance codes, including weed/grass control, parking in the grass, accumulation of garbage and debris, and exterior building maintenance requirements.
  • Regularly observes properties for more complex building violations and refers addresses to the Building Inspector for follow-up.
  • Enforces parking laws, educates citizens about parking laws, and works with citizens to reduce parking violations.
  • Provides non-emergency response to animal control requests, performs community education/service activities.
  • Enforces snow removal requirements for public sidewalks.
  • Aids in the following areas as needed: crossing guard, traffic direction, and motorist assists.
  • Works closely with the Police Lieutenant, Director of Public Works, and Community Development Director to ensure fair and consistent enforcement of municipal codes.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years of customer service-related experience
  • Valid driver’s license and clean background check
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to solve practical problems, be familiar with and comfortable using multiple computer and electronic equipment and programs, interpret and give instructions, and communicate constructively with individuals who have been issued citations.
