When were the Ambulance Service Fee and Motor Vehicle Registration Fee approved? Did the Community have a chance for input?
Starting in October 2016, there were several public Common Council work sessions held to discuss the budget. During these work sessions, the new fees were discussed in great detail. On November 22, a Public Hearing was held and residents had the opportunity to come and address their concerns. The 2017 Budget was approved at the November 22, 2016 Council meeting. Information regarding these meetings can be found on our webpage under Common Council Meeting Information.

Why are some recreation service fees higher for non-residents?
Residents pay an additional tax directly to the City of Platteville. A portion of these taxes are used to offset the cost of services for residents.
Why aren't reminders to pay sent out rather than the formal disconnection notice?
If we haven’t received payment by the 20th of the month, we send out disconnection notices around the 25th. Sometimes there is a very short window from the payment due date and when we send out notices. For example, in February 2022, we have to print disconnection notices on Tuesday the 24th and start printing the next month’s bills 2 days later to get them in the mail by the end of February. These notices are the only “reminders” we send out and are sent to all customers with a delinquent (past due) balance at the time of printing. There's a lot of information we are required to send.
Why did I get a late charge on my Water and Sewer Bill - I scheduled payment from my bank for the 20th?
Your bank will create and mail us a paper check. The payment is not electronic. You need to allow time for bank processing and mailing.
Why did I receive a code violation citation when other houses in the community appear to have similar issues?
Any citizen has the right to report a code violation. The city may have noticed more occurrences at your residence or place of business. If you feel there are other violators in your area you are free to report them.
Why did I receive an alternate side parking (or emergency route) ticket when it didn't even snow?
The purpose of this regulation is to allow access by plows when it does snow. Tickets are issued consistently throughout the winter to ensure compliance on those nights when it is needed for snow clearing. For winter parking regulations, see the City Parking Regulations and Maps.
Why is my water bill so high?
Your toilet may be leaking and you don't hear it. The seals can get old and your toilet needs to refill itself but not so much that you hear it. It's easy to check. Put a couple drops of dark colored food coloring or dark colored soda in the back part of the toilet (the tank part). Do not flush. Wait 20 to 30 minutes. If the water in the bowl turns that color, you have a leaky toilet.
Here's a link to a checklist that will help you look for leaks: Leak Checklist
