Prescribed Vegetation Management Burn Permit
Per Platteville Municipal Code 24.95 (a) (4), a burn permit may be issued by the Fire Chief, or their designee, for prescribed vegetation management within the City of Platteville for the purpose of naturally managing rain gardens, pollinator gardens, and other approved low mow or no mow areas that contain native prairie plants, many of which are fire dependent.
Procedure
An individual seeking a permit to perform a prescribed vegetation management burn within the City shall:
1) Complete a Prescribed Vegetation Management Burn Permit Application Form
2) Submit payment for the permit fee established in the City of Platteville Fee Schedule
3) Submit a map of the area to be burned (Google Maps, etc.) with the burn area highlighted.
4) Submit completed application form, map, and payment to the City Clerk’s office.
Upon a completed application being submitted and the associated fee collected, the City Clerk’s office will forward the permit to the Fire Chief for review and processing.
Applicants must provide at least one week of lead time between permit submission and the proposed prescribed burning activities.
Upon either approval or denial of the application, the Fire Chief will notify the applicant, in writing, of the status of their application and provide the applicant with a copy of the application form that was submitted.
Approved permit holders are required to follow all the requirements listed within the Prescribed Vegetation Management Burn Permit Application Form at all times.
