Update – Real Progress Toward The $1.5 Million Platteville Fire Facility Fund Raising Goal
Most certainly, the journey has been arduous and challenging, and it’s taken persistence, resilience and commitment. That being said the ‘finish line,’ as it relates to the $1.5Million fund raising goal for the Platteville District Fire Facility, is in sight.
It’s been said, “The steeper the mountain, the harder the climb; the better the view from the finish line.” The fire facility fund raising team, led by Paul Budden and John Fick, reports, that as of June 14, 2024, nearly three-quarters of the $1.5Million ($1,134,252) has been secured.
It’s not too late! You, too, can invest in the new Platteville District fire facility. You can add your name to the growing list of people, businesses and organizations who want our nearly 50 VOLUNTEER fire fighters to know that “we have their backs and we support a safer, larger, and up-to-date facility.”
In speaking about his experience in meeting with people about investing in this project Budden noted, “When our fire district residents tour our current facility, their eyes are opened. They see the very tight quarters that house our trucks and equipment. They also see that fire fighters have very limited space to get into their gear, sometimes needing to wait in line. It’s very apparent that this building project is overdue.” If you want to see for yourself, tours can be arranged by contacting Paul Budden (608-732-9113) or John Fick (920-602-3425).
Chief Simmons and City Manager Langreck report that they have given our architect (Wendel/5 Bugles) and our construction management firm (Kraemer Brothers) the green light to move forward with construction documents. The City is completing a utility and street project adjacent to the site. And yet this fall, the decommissioned O.E. Gray School will be demolished.
In total, the new fire facility is anticipated to cost $14.5Million. As a reminder, a grant of $7Million was received through the 2022 Federal Omnibus appropriations package and $6Million will be provided through the budgets of the fire district partners (Towns of Belmont, Elk Grove, Ellenboro, Harrison, Lima, Platteville and Smelser and the City of Platteville).
Donations of any size are appreciated and will be acknowledged. Checks should be made payable to ICI/Fire Facility Project and mailed to PO Box 503, Platteville WI 53818 or delivered in person to the Carnegie Building at 190 Market Street. Join the TEAM and, together, WE’LL FINISH STRONG!
