The History of Immigration and Settlement in Southwest Wisconsin

Calendar Date:
Sunday, October 6, 2024 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Southwestern Wisconsin continues to offer many advantages to peoples from diverse backgrounds. From the intraregional migration of indigenous peoples, to the rush of people from the US and Europe during the lead and zinc mining eras, to the free and enslaved people of color who established communities in the area, the migration of Amish families, and the more recent immigration of Spanish-speaking groups, our corner of the state has always been a place of great diversity of peoples, languages, and religions. Join Tracey Lee Roberts for a presentation on the history of immigration and settlement in Southwest Wisconsin.

Tracey Lee Roberts is a Senior Lecturer Emeritus from the History Department at University of Wisconsin at Platteville. She has given dozens of papers, talks, and workshops concerning Midwestern History with special emphasis on the old lead mine district southwest Wisconsin. She is currently writing a biography of Henry Dodge, the first territorial governor of Wisconsin.
