Frequently Asked Questions

What is PATH?

Platteville Art, Trails, and History project – PATH – is a community arts and culture project funded by the National Endowment for the Arts Our Town program. The goal of PATH is to bring the community together to decide what makes Platteville special and how we can use arts and culture to promote these special qualities and make our community an even better place.

PATH is being led by the City, Arts Wisconsin, and community partners. The project will result in a Creative Community Plan for Platteville and a celebration project. The form of the celebration project will be decided through the planning process and community input; it could be a piece of art, sculpture, mural, mosaic, musical performance, theater performance, or something else entirely

In order to develop a shared vision for our community, we need broad community involvement. We want to hear from you!

Why is PATH important to the community?

Creative placemaking brings the community together to reimagine the community, improve
local business viability and public safety and bring diverse people together to celebrate,
inspire, and be inspired. Cultural expression is fundamental to our understanding of what
defines community – from festivals and events to historic buildings and local history.
Community development should include strategies to draw on these local strengths and
assets.

The concrete outcome of the project will be a creative community plan and implementation
strategy that integrates arts and culture into the community development framework. To
celebrate completion of the plan, PATH will commission a work of public art or arts/cultural
performance as determined through the planning and community involvement process.

Who is PATH exactly?

PATH is being led by the City, Arts Wisconsin, and community partners, but it will be most
successful if we have full community involvement. PATH is all of us!

Some of the project partners include: The City of Platteville, The Mining & Rollo Jamison
Museums, The Platteville Public Library, Arts Wisconsin, The Platteville Area Regional
Chamber of Commerce, The Platteville School District, University of Wisconsin Pioneer

Platteville Community Theatre/Friends of the Auditorium.
