Deputy City Clerk

Are you looking to make an impact on your community? The City of Platteville is searching for a dedicated, detail-oriented Deputy City Clerk to assist in carrying out all functions of the City Clerk's office. This position assists in or has full responsibilities in the following areas: elections; records, permits, and licensing; council/boards and commissions; and general office management.
Minimum starting wage of $24.17/hour, commensurate with experience. The City of Platteville offers unmatched employee benefits, including participation in Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), health insurance with low monthly premiums and a $300 max out-of-pocket cost for care, generous paid time off (112 hours in first year plus additional sick leave), and employer paid life insurance and long-term disability.
Responsibilities
Elections
- Assist City Clerk with registrations, absentee ballots maintaining the state election database, polling location setup, election day support, election night reporting, post-election requirements and all other aspects of conducting elections as needed.
Records, Permits, and Licensing
- Maintain City vehicle registrations, titles, and driver license information. Update driver’s insurance as needed. Apply for license plates when requested by department.
- Update, post, and maintain various City records including vehicle registrations, ordinance and resolutions, licenses and permits, and City Administrative Policies.
- Serve as City property and liability insurance coordinator.
- Assist departments with website updates and postings.
- Prepare and process the Tax-Exempt mailing and file the summary with the State (even years)
Council/Boards and Commissions
- Responsible for assembly, distribution and coordination of Council packet, Boards/Commissions records, new Council member orientation materials, weekly updates and Council meeting schedule.
- Attend and take minutes for the Common Council and Plan Commission meetings in the absence of the City Clerk.
Office Management
- Use excellent customer service skills: establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, officials, and members of the public. Provide phone and front desk coverage.
- Notarize documents for City staff.
- Maintain monthly postage usage by department. Assist in mail processing.
City Manager
- Provide Executive Assistant support to the City Manager as needed.

Qualifications
- Minimum education: High School Degree, or GED equivalent, plus one year of other schooling to include secretarial, bookkeeping or accounting, and
- Related work experience of at least 1 year, or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Notary Public, or capable of becoming a Notary Public within three months on the job.
