Property Tax Assessments
To maintain fair and equitable assessments, and to comply with state regulations, the City of Platteville has contracted with Accurate Appraisal to conduct a Full Revaluation for 2018. This process results in all assessments being brought to market value. In the timeframe since the last revaluation, the market has changed greatly which is why you may be seeing a change in your assessed value.
The assessment value is just one of many variables used to determine property tax rates. A change in your property’s assessed value does not necessarily indicate an increase or decrease in the amount of property taxes you will pay. However, it does reflect the most recent market value of your property and helps to ensure all property owners are paying their appropriate share of taxes to support local school, technical college, county and municipal government services in our community.
Accurate Appraisal, LLC, the city’s assessment contractor, will conduct Open Book sessions to assist taxpayers in understanding their assessments. Open Book sessions will be held in the Council Chambers at Platteville City Hall, 75 N Bonson Street and are scheduled for August 8th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and August 9th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Online appointment scheduling is available. If you wish to meet with one of the appraisers, please log on to www.accurateassessor.com and click the online APPOINTMENTS link on top of the screen, then choose your location (Platteville), next choose your service (Open Book). After you select your schedule/date, click the date on the calendar to select your appointment time and then enter your personal information. If you do not have Internet access, please call Accurate Appraisal at 1-800-770-3927 to schedule an appointment. If you cannot make the arranged appointment times and you wish to discuss your assessment, you can call the Accurate Appraisal office or send an e-mail to question@accurateassessor.com. For additional assessment information please visit the Accurate Appraisal website; www.accurateassessor.com. If you are no longer the owner of the property described on the enclosed property assessment notice, please return it to Accurate Appraisal LLC, PO Box 415, Menasha, WI 54952.
If, after the Open Book session, you wish to object to the assessment, please contact City Clerk Candace Koch at City Hall or call (608) 348-1823 to file a “Form of Objection” and to schedule an appointment before the local Board of Review. You will need to file a written or oral intent to object with the City Clerk at least 48 hours prior to the Board of Review. The Board of Review will be meeting at Platteville City Hall between 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12th, 2018.
Appearances at the Board of Review are by prior appointment only. The Board of Review meeting is a formal proceeding at which the Board is required to evaluate evidence based on facts. You must provide factual information showing your property is incorrectly assessed.
For more information visit the City Assessor webpage on the City website under the Administration department.
