Run For Common Council - Nomination Papers Due Tuesday, January 4, 2022 By 5:00 p.m. In The Office Of The City Clerk

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at an election to be held in the City of Platteville on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, the following offices are to be elected to succeed the present incumbents listed.  The term for alderperson begins on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.  All terms are for three years.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, that the first day to circulate nomination papers is December 1, 2021 and the final day for filing nomination papers is on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. in the office of the City Clerk. 

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, that if a primary is necessary, the primary will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

How To Run For Office

In order to run for Common Council in the City of Platteville, a candidate must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

Citizen of the United States of America
18 Years of Age or Older
Elector/Resident of the City of Platteville
Not a Convicted Felon (unless duly pardoned for the conviction)

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you must complete the following requirements:

Complete the Campaign Registration Statement - Form CF-1
Completion of Declaration of Candidacy - Form EL-162
Complete the Nomination Papers for Nonpartisan Office - Form EL-169 

NOTE: At-Large Common Council candidates must collect 100 (minimum) to 200 (maximum) signatures of qualified city electors.  Aldermanic Common Council candidates must collect 20 (minimum) to 40 (maximum) signatures of qualified city electors.

Nomination papers for Common Council positions for the spring election may be circulated no sooner than December 1 preceding the election and may be filed no later than 5:00 PM on the first Tuesday in January preceding the election.  Emailed and faxed documents are not accepted.

To seek office as a registered write-in candidate:

  • Download your campaign registration statement from the Wisconsin Elections Commission website at any time. https://elections.wi.gov/node/4315
  • File your campaign registration statement with the City Clerk’s Office as soon as you decide to become a write-in candidate.
  • Write-in votes are counted at the Spring Election for candidates who file a campaign registration statement by noon on Friday, April 1.
  • Educate supporters to write your name on the write-in portion of the ballot, under the proper position.
