Volunteers

OE Gray Building

By Guest Blogger Jon Meidinger, Senior Center Manager

This week marks the Senior Center’s first month of operation at OE Gray school. I’d like to recognize those civic-minded citizens who stepped up in a big way to help us move into our spacious new facility.

Nutrition World Outdoor Fitness Center

What I love about the Nutrition World Outdoor Fitness Center project is that it is both aspirational and inspirational.

Last winter Gene Weber came to my office with an idea. I would almost call it a crazy idea (or aspiration) for an outdoor fitness center. The project was going to require fundraising and I expressed some concerns given the other efforts underway for the library, museum and senior center. He said that he understood my concerns. I wished him luck, while secretly thinking that he was going to need some!

A Tribute to Our Public Safety Staff and Volunteers

I had the honor of recognizing our public safety staff – police officers, dispatchers, EMS and fire – during the volunteer recognition at Party in the Park (special thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for offering the suggestion and coordinating the event). An abbreviated version of my comments are included below.

Last month I participated in a strategic planning session for the Platteville Area Industrial Development Corporation (PAIDC). PAIDC markets and manages the Platteville Industrial Park. As part of the strategic planning process, the facilitator had us divide into small groups to complete an “asset map”. We each had to answer questions related to the organizations we belonged to both personally and professionally, then share our responses with our group members.
