Homeowners Eligible for up to $1140 Towards the Replacement of Lead Service Lines

The City of Platteville is pleased to be able to offer up to $1140 towards the cost of the replacement of lead water service lines on private residential properties. This amount is estimated to cover 75% of the average cost for replacement (costs associated with individual properties will vary).

If your residential property is known to have a lead water service line, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. There are no immediate health concerns with respect to water quality within the city of Platteville. However, to reduce potential exposure, the City successfully applied for a grant from the Federal Environmental Protection Agency and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to partially reimburse costs to replace lead service lines on private residential priorities. Platteville was one of only 38 communities to receive funding in 2016.

The City of Platteville’s goal is to remove all lead water service lines within the city.  We hope that you will take advantage of this program. Our funding is limited and the reimbursement program will end when our funding is exhausted. As a result, acting quickly increases your likelihood of being reimbursed for your project. Update to Common Council as of August 1

Lead Service Lines (LSL):  There are over 400 lead water service lines identified within the City of Platteville.  The DNR has come up with a funding source to provide up to $300,000 toward the replacement of the homeowner’s section of LSL and an additional $10,000 for replacement of LSL to licensed day care facilities.  As of August 1, there are 177 owners who have submitted funding reservation forms with $194,505 grant dollars reserved.  This leaves $105,495 remaining to be allocated. Including checks that are being processed, the City has reimbursed $36,441.72 to date.
