Mound View State Trail Grand Opening – June 21st

The long-awaited trail connecting Platteville and Belmont, Wisconsin is finally finished. The Grand Opening of the Mound View State Trail will be celebrated on June 21st at 4:15 pm. The celebration will be approximately halfway between Platteville and Belmont at the intersection of West Mound Road and Mitchell Hollow Road.

The 7-mile trail connects Platteville’s Rountree Branch Trail to the Pecatonica State Trail in Belmont. The Mound View State Trail and Rountree Branch Trail are non-motorized trails, while the Pecatonica State Trail is a shared use trail open to ATVs, horseback riding, walking, biking, and seasonally to skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiles.

Run, walk or ride the 4 miles from Belmont or the 4.5 miles from Platteville and “Make Merry” about this great addition to our region. There are planned group bike rides from both Belmont and Platteville for the Celebration. In Belmont bikers are meeting at Bond Park at 3:30 pm. In Platteville bikers will meet at the trailhead for the David Canny Rountree Branch Trail near Delta 3 Engineering at 3:30 pm.

There will be music (thank you, Make Music Platteville), a few speeches, and lots of pats on the backs for the TEAM that brought this project “across the finish line.”
