Position Summary

The City of Platteville seeks an experienced, passionate, and energetic individual to serve as our Parks and Recreation Director. Under the direction of the City Manager, this position will direct, coordinate, and evaluate all recreation programs and activities for the City of Platteville, as well as oversee the operations of Platteville Senior Center, City of Platteville Park Department, Platteville Family Aquatic Center, Broske Event Center, Moundview Campground, and Platteville Forestry Department.

This is a full-time, exempt position, offering exceptional employee benefits and a minimum starting salary of $55,000.  

Responsibilities

  • Develop, submit, and monitor the annual budget for Recreation Administration and Programs, Broske Event Center, Platteville Senior Center, Platteville Forestry Department, and Park Operations and Capital Improvements.
  • Develop, submit, and monitor grant submissions for Recreation Administration and Programs and solicit funding by contacting organizations to increase endowments and trust accounts.
  • Review, maintain, and develop policies, procedures, and standards and guiding documents for efficient and effective operation and maintenance of department operations. Assure compliance with established policies and procedures and adhere to local ordinances, State of Wisconsin Statutes, and Federal Government Guidelines.
  • Select, train, supervise and evaluate the Park’s Foreman, Senior Center Director, Administrative Assistant, PFAC Pool Manager and assistant managers, and other department personnel, including part-time, seasonal, and voluntary personnel. This will include onboarding, scheduling, and supervising all recreation staff and officials.
  • Prepare program marketing materials, including flyers, pamphlets, and brochures.
  • Coordinate program registrations, conduct league meetings, set program schedules, and ensure all programs and activities are properly supervised.
  • Shall serve as ex-officio member of, takes minutes for, and sets agenda for the Parks, Forestry, and Recreation Committee and other committees as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Recreation, Parks or Leisure Services or related field.
  • Two (2) years related work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Certifications

  • Aquatic Facility Operation Certification (AFO), Certified Pool Operator (CPO), preferred or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
  • Certification in Parks and Recreation (CPRP) preferred or ability to obtain within (6) months.
