Position Summary

The City of Platteville seeks an experienced, organized, and energetic individual to serve as our Recreation & Community Events Coordinator. Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director, this individual will plan, oversee, and manage the operations, services, staff, and activities of assigned recreational and event programming for the City of Platteville.

This is a full-time position, offering exceptional employee benefits and a minimum starting hourly wage of $18.74.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee recreational programming including but not limited to sports, fitness, aquatics, concession operations, rentals, cultural activities, programs and classes, custodial support and maintenance, and special events.
  • Oversee the development, promotion, and implementation of diversified recreational programs and services for all ages in accordance with community needs; evaluate program effectiveness; recommend changes and implement management decisions.
  • Oversee the event programming, staff and volunteers, maintenance, facility logistics, rentals, and operations of the Broske Event Center.
  • Coordinate logistics for field and facility rentals, including but not limited to, providing tours and information to prospective renters, and implementing details outlined in rental agreements.  Act as staff liaison to patrons, vendors, and participants to ensure events are properly executed with optimal satisfaction.
  • Responsible for monitoring and inspecting fields and facilities, supplies, and equipment for safety and security; perform routine field and facility maintenance and logistics, including but not limited to, the setup and tear down of tables, chairs, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of the Platteville Family Aquatic Center, Platteville Senior Center, Moundview Campground, Platteville Forestry Department and City of Platteville’s Parks Department.
  • Assist the Parks and Recreation Director in budget development and management.
  • Assist in the development, submission, and monitoring of grant requests for Recreation Administration and Programs.
  • Assist in selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating part-time, seasonal, and voluntary personnel.
  • Oversee fee collection and accounting activities, review records and files to ensure proper accounting and documentation is consistent with city policies and procedures and established retention records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years or 60 units of college level coursework, in business administration, recreation, physical education, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience managing or overseeing a recreation program, or custodial and/or events operations; or any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, recreation, physical education, or a related field.
  • Aquatic Facility Operation Certification (AFO), Certified Pool Operator (CPO), or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
  • Certification in Parks and Recreation (CPRP) or ability to obtain within (6) months.
