53818 Brief: 2020 Summer Construction Projects

It is often said there are two seasons, winter and road construction. Platteville will have a relatively busy road construction season this year. As with any kind of road construction, you can expect traffic delays and temporary lane closures from time to time. To ensure your safety and the safety of work crews, we ask that you be patient while we complete construction work and plan your driving routes accordingly. Here’s what to expect this summer and fall:

Market Street (Chestnut to Hickory) Reconstruction Project
Market Street is a full reconstruction project from Chestnut Street to Hickory Street. Full reconstruction includes water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, street and sidewalk reconstruction.

Payment Funds: Money from City’s Sewer & Water Funds and 2020 Capital Projects Borrowing
Timeline: April through late fall 2020

Bradford & Irene Street Reconstruction Project
Bradford and Irene Street is another full reconstruction project. Construction will run on Irene Street from Hickory Street to Bradford Street and on Bradford Street from Irene Street to Pine Street. A potential reconstruction add on may be to reconstruct the last block of Bradford Street from Pine to Main Street.

Payment Funds: Money from City’s Sewer & Water Funds and 2020 Capital Projects Borrowing
Timeline: April through late fall 2020

South Court Street and North Third Street Water Main Project
This project will install water main only on South Court Street from Harrison Street to the south end of Court Street and on North Third Street from Furnace Street to Cedar Street. The only pavement replacement will be where the water main is installed. The project is intended to address repeated water main breaks on South Court and the removal of lead water service lines on North Third Street.

Payment Funds: Money from City’s Water Fund
Timeline: May through July 2020

Lot 4 Oak Street Park Lot Reconstruction Project
This project will reconstruct the city parking lot at the corner of Oak Street and Main Street. It will remove the deformations in the lot and ensure the handicapped parking stall meets current requirements. The number of stalls will remain the same. The city is in the process of looking at ways to improve lighting, landscaping and artwork within this project.

Payment Funds: Money from Tax Increment District #7 and revenue from parking stall rentals
Timeline: June through July 2020

West Golf Drive & Industry Park Manhole Replacement Project (COMPLETE)
This project will replace deteriorated manholes in the West Golf Drive neighborhood and in the Industry Park.

Payment Funds: Money from City’s Sewer Fund
Timeline: March through May 2020

Rountree Branch Streambank Stabilization
This project will place rip rap and turf reinforcement in three locations along the Rountree Branch to reduce erosion. There are two locations on UW-Platteville property and one location next to Katie’s Garden at the Chamber of Commerce.

Payment Funds: 50% from a DNR grant. Local matching funds from UW-Platteville and City’s tax dollars carried over from 2019.
