National Recognition for Rountree Branch Trail Project
Our community has recently been informed that the Rountree Branch Trail and Pecatonica State Trail project (Moving Platteville Outdoors paving and lighting project) has won a 2017 Coalition for Recreational Trails (CRT) award in the Engaging Public Sector Partners category.
The awards will be presented in Washington, D.C. in the Rayburn House Office Building (2253) on Capitol Hill on June 14 at 5:00 (reception to follow).
Congressional interest in these awards is strong, and key Members of Congress will share remarks on the Recreational Trails Program and trails in general.
“This national recognition is certainly a tribute to the 1500 plus residents, donors, volunteers, contractors and others that collaborated together to make this happen under the leadership of the Platteville Community Arboretum, Platteville Community Fund, Building Platteville and the City of Platteville” shared Gene Weber, MPO Chair Person. “The 3-mile paved and lighted David Canny Rountree Branch Trail from the university to the east side businesses is the longest lighted trail in the region. It is attracting tourists, new residents, employees for our businesses, area athletes, bikers, walkers, runners and is helping people in their rehabilitation efforts after surgeries” noted Angie Wright, PCA Grant Writer.
