Notice of Manhole Overflow

On Monday, April 9, 2018 the City of Platteville was notified of a sanitary sewer overflow from a manhole at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Maple Drive (south) at approximately 4:15 p.m.  Staff responded and corrected the situation in less than one hour. Staff was able to clean up the minor amount of sewage on the street before it got to the storm sewer system or Rountree Branch.

The cause of the overflow was a plug in the sewer lines due to someone disposing of unauthorized items into the sanitary sewer system.  The Water and Sewer Utility has an aggressive maintenance program to keep the lines flowing smoothly.  This section was last maintained in 2015.  There was no threat to health or the environment.  Residents are reminded that non-organic items such as plastic bags, disposable towels, rags, toys, feminine hygiene products and similar items should not be disposed through sinks, floor drains or toilets.
