The City of Platteville seeks a Street Maintenance Worker to assist  in the operation and maintenance of city cemeteries and other Street Department responsibilities, including street repair, leaf pickup, brush chipping and snow removal. This position will routinely operate lawn mowers, weed trimmers, skid loaders, and trucks of various sizes and weights, including snow plows. Occasionally, this position will also operate chippers, concrete saws, back-hoes, and other heavy equipment.

The minimum starting hourly wage is based on experience but not less than $19.68. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall presentation and appearance of the cemetery which includes: mowing grass, pruning shrubs, trimming trees, spreading of pesticide/herbicide, and planting/maintaining landscaping.
  • Trains and provides work direction to seasonal employees.
  • Cleans and repairs historic monuments.
  • Assists with opening and closing ground burial spaces and mausoleum and cremation interments. Landscapes closed graves.
  • Assist visitors and funeral coordinators with the location of grave sites and other requests.
  • Assist with street maintenance including crack filing and blacktop patching.
  • Assist with leaf pickup and brush chipping.
  • Operates vehicles for salting and plowing city streets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School education or GED equivalent.
  • Groundskeeping experience.
  • Class B CDL license with air brakes must be obtained within 6-months of hire. City of Platteville will sponsor the hired candidate to obtain and maintain this license.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the public.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screen.
