Utility Maintenance Worker II

The City of Platteville seeks a Utility Maintenance Worker II to assist in the operation and maintenance of our water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems. This position performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer and facilities systems. Hourly wage based on experience but not less than $20.77. The City of Platteville offers unmatched employee benefits, including participation in Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), health insurance with low monthly premiums and a $300 max out-of-pocket cost for care, generous paid time off (112 hours in first year plus additional sick leave), and employer paid life insurance and long-term disability.
Responsibilities
- Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including cleaning and unclogging water lines, sewer lines, and manholes.
- Assists in installation of water and sewer lines and connections; assists in rebuilding manholes.
- Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans and flushes water mains, pipe, valves and fittings on repair of mains and services and installations of services, fire hydrants and drinking fountains; assists in shutting off broken sections of water mains.
- Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the water & sewer department.
- Repairs and conducts general maintenance on building and grounds.
- Utilizes GIS mapping software to locate and maintain infrastructure maintenance data.
- Maintains lift stations
Minimum Qualifications
- High School education or GED equivalent
- 1 year of related experience
- CDL license with Class B and air brakes endorsements must be obtained within 6-months of hire. City of Platteville will sponsor the hired candidate to obtain and maintain this license.
- Basic Knowledge of computers, tablets and phone applications.
- Familiarity with lockout/tagout safety protocols.
- Experience with one or more of the following tools or equipment; backhoe, sewer rodder, air compressor, tap machine, mechanic tools, loader, dump truck, concrete saw, sewer vacuum, sewer jetter, plate compactor, torch, grinder.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screen.
