The City of Platteville seeks a Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker to perform daily checks of treatment plant processes to keep plant performing within discharge limits.  Help perform lab tests, maintain equipment, buildings and grounds as needed to keep all in working order.  Hourly wage based on experience but not less than $24.17. Responsibilities

  • Collects samples and identifies concentrations of chemical, physical or biological characteristics of wastewater required in accordance with local, state of Wisconsin and Federal requirements; gathers and tests wastewater samples for plant efficiency reports as required.
  • Maintains records on plant operation and maintenance.
  • Inspects plant equipment and machinery to determine if all equipment is operating properly, makes minor and major repairs and adjustments.
  • Performs lab work when required.
  • Hauls sludge.
  • Maintain grounds and buildings; lawn maintenance, snow removal, painting, repairs and cleaning
  • Perform confined space entries using safety equipment and safety program

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School education or GED equivalent 
  • 1-3 years of related experience. Mechanical aptitude required.  
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license with ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with B, C, D endorsements, tanker and air brakes within 6 months. City of Platteville will sponsor the hired candidate to obtain and maintain this license.
  • Must be able to acquire the below Wisconsin Wastewater Operator Certifications within 24 months of hire.
    • Biological Solids/Sludge Handling, Processing and Reuse- Basic
    • Biological Treatment: Attached Growth Processes - Basic
    • Biological Treatment: Suspended Growth Processes- Basic
    • Disinfection – Basic
    • Laboratory – Basic
    • Nutrient Removal: Total Phosphorus – Basic
    • Solids Separation - Basic
  • Willingness and ability to complete necessary continuing education each year to maintain required certifications mentioned above. 
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screening to be eligible for the position.
