Platteville Boards
The Zoning Board of Appeals hears appeals and applications regarding variances and exceptions to the Zoning Ordinance. This board is able to grant variances and exceptions to the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, in harmony with the purpose and intent of the Zoning Ordinance.
The Board of Appeals (Zoning) meets the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers.
The Board of Review is a statutorily required local board charged with the duty of correcting any errors in property assessment that it determines have been made. It is a quasi-judicial body whose duty is to hear sworn oral testimony regarding assessed values and to decide, based on that testimony, whether an individual has proven the Assessor’s valuation incorrect.
The Board of Review must meet at the Municipal Building within a 45 day period beginning on the 4th Monday of April, pursuant to s. 70.47(1), Wis. Stats. The meeting may last longer than one day.
The ET Zoning Board of Appeals shall consist of six members and two alternate members; three members and one alternate member shall be residents of the City, and three members and one alternate member shall be residents of the Town. The City members shall be appointed by the President of the Common Council, subject to confirmation of the Common Council. The Town members shall be appointed by the Town Board Chairman subject to confirmation of the Town Board. The Housing Authority Board monitors the administration of the Federal Rent Supplement Program (voucher program) for the City of Platteville to ascertain that the program operates within the rules and regulations as set forth by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Housing Authority Board meets the last Tuesday of each month at 3:30pm in the Council Chambers in City Hall.

State law provides for a Joint Review Board(JRB) and defines its members and responsibilities. JRB members represent a taxing jurisdiction (municipality, county, school, technical college). It is the JRB’s responsibility to approve or deny the creation or amendment of a Tax Incremental District (TID). If the JRB approves the TID, it viewed or heard convincing evidence of the need for Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) assistance to make the development a reality.
Platteville Public Library is established by Statutes as an administrative agency of the City of Platteville. The Library is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of seven residents of the City of Platteville, one of whom is a current member of the Common Council. The members shall be appointed by the President of the Common Council, subject to confirmation of the Common Council. The members shall be appointed for terms of three years. The Library Board has statutory control of library funds, property, and expenditures, and appoints a qualified Library Director.
The Museum Board sets policies for all aspects of The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums relating to maintenance, staffing, public utility, and the disbursements of monies belonging to the Museum Fund.
The Museum Board meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 4:45pm at the Museum.
The Redevelopment Authority was formed by resolution of the Common Council on June 14, 2005. The RDA later formed Redevelopment Area #1, which was created in conjunction with TID #7 for the downtown area. The purpose of forming these areas is to improve the physical and economic condition of the downtown area. The RDA provides financial assistance that encourages downtown building owners to fix up their buildings and properties.
The Redevelopment Authority Board meets the 4th Monday of each month at 5:00 pm in the Mound City Bank Motor Branch.
